What is SDIP?
In Mass, Driver License points is commonly referred to as (SDIP). SDIP stands for The Safe Driver Insurance Plan. The SDIP program established through state law and it is designed to safe driving providing consumers with lower auto insurance premium incentives for drivers.
Basically, the drivers who do not cause accidents or commit traffic violations will receive the biggest insurance discount. SDIP surcharges required that for drivers classified as high-risk. These drivers pay a greater share of insurance costs because they create the majority of insurance losses.

How long do traffic violations stay on your record in Massachusetts?
Most carriers will surcharge a violation or accident for 5 years from the surcharge date. However, as it relates to SDIP pricing the carries will often go back “6 years from the surcharge date”. I’ve seen people charged in 2018 for something that happened in 2012. I’m sure there’s a story behind it but the point is, when you drag a ticket or traffic violation or infraction out, it can prolong the pain of “increased insurance rates in Massachusetts”.
Think about it. The carriers, at least on a national level go off the date of the accident, ticket, or claim. Only in Massachusetts do we make it 6 years (20% more) AND have something called a “surcharge date”. I don’t see this stuff in other states we wring insurance like CT, ME, NH, or RI.
